The President Who Freed The
Slaves

The President who we are studying about is Abraham Lincoln. We chose him
because he stopped slavery.
Lincoln was born in 1809 on Feb 12th. He was born near Hodgenville,
Kentucky. He became a lawyer in1837. He served in the state legislature
in Springfield, Illinois. In1842 he married Mary Todd. They had two sons
in 1849. Their names were Robert and Edward. In 1858 Abe campaigned against
Douglas for the United States senate. He won.
He was voted in as President in 1860. South Carolina became the first
state to leave the Union on December 20th. The Civil War began on April
12th. It was between the South and the North. The South wanted to keep
slavery and to be separte from the rest of the country. The North wanted
to stop slavery and keep the South from leaving. President Lincoln issued
the Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery on January 1, 1863.
Lincoln was elected to a second term on November 8, 1864. Frederick
Douglas gave an idea to Lincoln to put the ex-slaves in the Army to fight
against the South. The free men helped the Northern Army to win. Robert
E. Lee, head of the confederate armies surrendered to General Ulysses S.
Grant on April 9, 1865 and the Civil War ended.
Abraham Lincoln died April 14, 1865. His age was 56 when John Wilkes
Booth fired the fatal shot at president Lincoln in Fords Theater in Washington
D.C.
He was a good president because he didn't do bad things like some presidents.
For example like Richard Nixon. President Lincoln was a good lawyer and
president to us. Some people didn't like President Lincoln as their president
because he wanted to stop slavery and they didn't. These people may have
killed him.
The Youngest President

This report is about John F Kennedy.I am writing about him because
he was very brave and he saved people and he was a good person.
He was born on May 29, 1917. He was born in Brookline, Massachsetts.
When he was young he saved his brother from drowning. John F. Kennedy finished
his high school studies and went to Harvard University. After he graduated
from Harverd, he attended Stanford University for a short time. Then he
went to the navy. When he got out he decided to get into politics. He promised
to serve the senate for the good of all people. Again he won the election.
He became senator
John F. Kennedy. One evening at a dinner party senator Kennedy sat oppisite
a young woman named Jaqueline Bouvier. They saw each other often and before
long they were married.
He would run against Richard Nixon for the highest office of president
of the United States. He won the election by a small number of votes. He
was the youngest president of all. John F. Kennedy raised his right hand
and took the oath of his office, promising to protect the constitution of
the United States. Soon the president moved into the White House with his
wife and two children, Caroline and John Jr. He established the Peace Corps.
He died on November 22,1963. He was 46 years old when he died. They
think Lee Harvey Oswald shot him three times, in the head,on the back and
on the throat. Then the head flew on the car.
He was a very good president because when he promised the people things
he wouldn't forget what he promised them. He would always do it even if
he thought he would die because his spirit might still live on.
